SIALKOT, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Jun, 2026) Ambassador of Zimbabwe Titus M.J. Abu Basutu along with Webster T. Chiyangwa, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Inudstry (SCCI).
President SCCI Syed Ahtesham Mazhar, Senior Vice President Muhammad Murad Arsad and Vice President SCCI Salman Sheikh warmly welcomed the distinguished guests.
Later, during a meeting held at SCCI Auditorium, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade ties, fostering economic cooperation, and identifying key sectors for collaboration.
President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Syed Ahtesham Mazhar, in his address, said that the Pakistan and Zimbabwe enjoy cordial and friendly relations dating back to the independence of Zimbabwe on 18th April 1980. Ever since, both countries have cooperated in various sectors and have maintained a relationship based on mutual respect, friendship, and shared aspirations for economic and
social development.
The president SCCI said that the total trade volume between the two countries in 2025 was just 21.206 million US Dollars. Indeed, there is a huge potential to increase this volume of trade. Both sides need to work on developing a strategy for bringing improvements.
He said that the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) strongly supports enhanced people-to-people contacts and direct business engagement between our respective business communities. In this regard, we encourage the exchange of trade delegations, participation in single-country trade exhibitions, and regular business-to-business interactions to promote commercial partnerships and explore untapped opportunities in the two markets.
The President SCCI said that the Sialkot has developed a dynamic Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Industrial setup, which is highly conducive to joint ventures and collaborative partnerships. Our exporters possess a deep understanding of international standards and compliance requirements, contributing to an annual export volume exceeding 2.63 billion US Dollars to the national exchequer.
“From precision surgical instruments used in operating rooms around the world to high-quality sports goods, including footballs used in FIFA World Cup and other global events, Sialkot has established itself as a symbol of excellence and reliability in international markets. The city’s industrial landscape also includes textiles, leather products, protective gear, and specialized apparel, catering to diverse global demands”, he added.
Addressing on this occasion, Ambassador of Zimbabwe Titus M.J. Abu Basutu has stressed the need for strengthening economic relations between Pakistan and Zimbabwe to enhance bilateral trade volume.
He said that the private sector and chambers of commerce in both countries could play a pivotal role in unlocking new business opportunities.
Titus M. J. Abu Basutu said that Pakistan and Zimbabwe enjoy a strong and friendly bilateral relationship with immense potential for trade ties.
