On a tense regional situation, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and involving the kingdom in the US-Iran conflict are unacceptable.
ANKARA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Sep, 2026) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Saudi Arabia may have certain military needs following the Yemeni Houthis’ ongoing military advances, adding that Turkey will conduct a detailed assessment of those defence and military requirements with Pakistan under the Mecca Agreement.
Speaking about the tense situation in the middle East, the Turkish foreign minister said the Yemeni Houthi militia was continuing its attacks on Saudi Arabia.
He added that peace proposals had been sent to all relevant parties to end the fighting in the region.
Hakan Fidan made clear that involving Saudi Arabia in the US-Iran conflict was unacceptable under any circumstances, saying the current crisis in the Middle East was becoming economically unbearable for the world.
Against this backdrop, Turkey had also sent proposals to countries in the region, as well as Ukraine and Russia, for an immediate end to the fighting in the Black Sea.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led Arab military coalition claimed that Saudi air defence systems intercepted and destroyed in mid-air a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said the Houthis had attempted to target civilians and sensitive civilian facilities in Riyadh, Bish, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu, but modern defence systems destroyed all the attacks in the air.
International news agencies reported that loud explosions were heard during the attack in Riyadh, while clouds of smoke were seen near King Khalid International Airport.
No casualties were reported. However, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that the group had targeted sensitive military sites in Riyadh and key facilities of Saudi oil company Aramco in Yanbu with drones and ballistic missiles.
