LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Sep, 2026) A key member of the Punjab government’s legal team, Assistant Advocate General Punjab Malik Umar Tahir has resigned from his post.
According to sources, Malik Umar Tahir sent his resignation to the Punjab law secretary, citing personal reasons for stepping down.
He had represented the Punjab government in several important cases before the Lahore High Court.
Sources said he had particularly played an important role in presenting the government’s position in cases related to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
He had also led the team of law officers representing the government in PTI-related cases before the Lahore High Court.
Given his familiarity with legal matters and representation of the government in various important cases, Malik Umar Tahir held a prominent position in the Punjab government’s legal team.
Following his resignation, the Punjab government will consider its future plan regarding his responsibilities, including which law officer will be assigned responsibility for important cases and what changes will be made to the legal team.
Malik Umar Tahir’s resignation comes at a time when several important cases related to the Punjab government are pending before the Lahore High Court.
Sources said personal matters were cited as the Primary reason for the resignation; however, some other issues are also being discussed in legal circles. It would be premature to say anything conclusively about those matters.
