The government is pushing the public into a sea of despair by doing all this, as it seeks to prevent PTI from ever being in a position to protest, says the PPP leader.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Sep, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party central leader Qamar Zaman Kaira termed the system hybrid and illegitimate, saying that the country has a hybrid system instead of democracy and that there is no room for it in the Constitution.
Speaking on the Hum news programme, he said that General Faiz had also run all affairs during Imran Khan’s tenure.
There was interference during the Pakistan Peoples Party’s tenure as well, but at least the institutions were made answerable to Parliament.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said the government was trying to ensure that PTI never reached a position to protest so that its workers and voters became disappointed.
He said PTI also wanted people to take to the streets so that deaths occurred, giving momentum to the movement, increasing pressure on the government and courts, and creating a path for Imran Khan’s release.
Advising the government to reconcile with the opposition, Kaira said a large gathering during a protest could become an easy target for terrorists.
He urged the government to stop using force against PTI, saying that entering the homes of PTI workers and vandalising them was creating a gulf between the public and the state. He said the government was pushing the public into a sea of despair by doing all this.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said their long march would reach Islamabad in October or November and that they would not return until their demands were accepted.
Speaking on a private television programme, he said their long march would reach Islamabad in October or November and that it would take them three to four days to reach the capital.
He said the matter could extend until November, adding that the decision on the long march was final and that its date would not be changed. Sohail Afridi would depart from Peshawar on 27th September.
He said more than 2 million people would join them and challenged the government to make arrangements to stop them, claiming that it would not be within the government’s capacity to do so.
He said 3,000 containers had already reached Islamabad and that they would themselves shut down Islamabad. He added that when 2 million people participated, the long march would take four days to reach Islamabad, and that it could extend into November. He said there would be no return until the demands were accepted.
