LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Sep, 2026) Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan has questioned where Maryam Nawaz obtained Rs27.1 million to pay for the aircraft, saying she did not have that much money.
He asked who made the payment and what benefits they received, adding that Maryam Nawaz would have to answer because using a state asset for personal purposes is a crime. He said ministers in Poland and Australia had been forced to resign over similar matters.
According to X, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said in a video statement that Maryam had declared in her 2024 financial statements that she had total cash assets worth Rs10.8 million and jewellery worth Rs1.7 million.
He said she had also stated that she owed Rs28 million to her brother. He then questioned where the Rs27.1 million for the aircraft’s alleged false bills came from. He asked whether Maryam Nawaz paid for using the aircraft, what she sold to make the payment, or who paid on her behalf.
If someone made the payment, he asked, what benefit did that person receive in return?
He said Maryam Nawaz would have to answer these questions, including why a payment of Rs27 million had been made and under what head.
The issue is not merely the payment; using a state aircraft for personal purposes is itself a serious crime, Iqrar-ul-Hassan said.
He added that many prominent leaders and officials had lost their positions over such conduct. In 2025, Australia’s transport minister reportedly left an official engagement to attend a friend’s birthday party and had to resign.
Poland’s deputy justice minister travelled with his family in an official vehicle for a holiday and, after returning, apologised and said he was ready to pay whatever amount was demanded. However, he was told that he had to resign because he had used a state asset for private purposes.
He said that in Pakistan, Azma Bukhari had falsely claimed that the aircraft had been acquired for Air Punjab, but the truth had now become clear.
He questioned whose position had been lost as a punishment for telling that lie, adding that if Maryam Nawaz’s ministers were unaffected, why would Maryam Nawaz be affected?
