IHC Restrains Issuance Of Appointment Letter For PEC Registrar

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Sep, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday restrained the issuance of an appointment letter for the Registrar of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), while allowing the recruitment process to continue.

Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo issued the written order on a petition filed by Engineer Khadim Hussain and directed that the recruitment process may proceed, but no appointment letter for the Registrar should be issued until further orders.

The court also sought replies from the Pakistan Engineering Council and other respondents and adjourned the hearing until September 29.

Barrister Umar Ijaz Gilani appeared on behalf of the petitioner.

According to the written order, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that an advertisement for appointment of the Registrar had been issued on August 23.

The counsel contended that under the relevant rules, where a Senior Additional Registrar was available, the Selection board was required to recommend at least three Names from among senior officers for appointment.

He further argued that the Pakistan Engineering Council Act and rules did not provide for direct appointment of the Registrar and that issuance of the advertisement was therefore in violation of the law and applicable rules.

The court sought replies from the respondents and adjourned further proceedings until September 29.
