An explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the old police lines, followed by another suicide attacker detonating himself near the Special Branch building, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said.
KOHAT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Sep, 2026) A blast near the old police lines in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district killed 16 people, including 5 police personnel, and injured several others.
Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
According to media reports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed said an explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the old police lines, after which another suicide attacker detonated himself near the Special Branch building.
He said 11 civilians and 5 police personnel were killed in the incident.
The IGP said that after the blast, an exchange of fire between police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Fitna al-Khawarij also continued, during which one terrorist was killed.
Rescue officials said the injured were immediately shifted to DHQ Hospital, where an emergency was declared.
The Kohat-Hangu Road was closed to all traffic following the blast.
According to officials, 14 Rescue 1122 ambulances, recovery vehicles and more than 40 personnel took part in relief operations at the site.
The rescue operation was supervised by District Emergency Officer Noor-ul-Amin.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the blast and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
The prime minister directed that the injured be provided with the best possible medical treatment and that a report be submitted on the nature and causes of the incident.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi also took notice of the incident, sought a report from police officials and directed that all available resources be used for the immediate treatment of the injured.
