Ahsan Iqbal Contacts Liaqat Baloch, Seeks Fifth Round Of Talks

Liaqat Baloch says he will respond after consultations and reiterates that the petroleum levy must be abolished.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Sep, 2026) Following Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s announcement and final preparations for a march on Islamabad against the petroleum levy, the government has contacted the party’s deputy emir and expressed a desire to hold a fifth round of talks.

According to details, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal contacted Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch and invited him to talks on Saturday.

However, Liaqat Baloch said he would respond to the government’s invitation after consulting the Jamaat’s emir and senior leadership.

He made it clear that the protest would continue until the levy was abolished.

It may be recalled that five rounds of talks have so far been held between Jamaat-e-Islami and the government.

In the first phase, a government delegation went to Mansoorah in Lahore to extend the invitation for talks, while four rounds were held in Islamabad. The latest round took place on Wednesday, 16 September.

The Jamaat-e-Islami emir has already made it clear that delaying tactics in the name of talks would not be accepted.

He said Jamaat-e-Islami never closes the doors to dialogue, but the government should bring concrete proposals. He added that peaceful protest is their constitutional and democratic right.
