My remarks about the Field Marshal were unintentional in their intended meaning; I deeply respect the institution’s dignity and regret if my words caused any misunderstanding, the PPP leader clarified.
KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Sep, 2026) Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader and former Sindh Assembly speaker Nisar Khuhro has apologised for his remarks about Field Marshal Asim Munir.
According to reports, a video of Nisar Khuhro addressing an event went viral on social media.
He said that a minister’s speech would otherwise have received no importance, but it gained attention only because the minister dragged Asim Munir, who is called the Field Marshal, into the matter.
He added that when they did not flee out of fear of Zia-ul-Haq or Pervez Musharraf, “this Field Marshal also cannot compete with us.”
Later, the PPP leader issued a clarification and withdrew his remarks.
In his statement, Nisar Khuhro apologised, saying that his statement about the Field Marshal, given the previous day, was completely unintentional in its original meaning and that he sincerely regretted making it.
He said, “I have the utmost respect for the dignity of the Pakistan Army and all its institutions, and I am deeply distressed that my words may have caused any misunderstanding or hurt anyone’s feelings.
However, I had absolutely no intention of insulting the institution. Therefore, I apologise for my remarks.”
