Proposal to set a minimum age for social media use as regulatory laws are set to be further tightened
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Sep, 2026) The Federal government has decided to further tighten social media laws to regulate social media use in the country, prevent child exploitation and address violations of moral boundaries in the name of family vlogging.
According to media reports, sources said the proposed measures include setting a minimum age for using social media platforms and preventing obscene and inappropriate content produced in the name of family vlogging.
The Ministry of Interior will hold extensive consultations with all relevant institutions and other stakeholders before finalizing the proposed legislation.
Sources said the development follows growing public and security concerns over the economic and psychological exploitation of children on social media, online harassment and the spread of immoral and inappropriate content under the guise of family vlogging.
The consultation process is expected to include the PTA, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and senior officials from the federal and provincial police.
In this regard, sources said the government would closely review modern social media policies in various countries, including Australia, while it would also consider imposing bans or stricter conditions on certain social media platforms that fail to comply with regulations.
