A senior Indian journalist claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping felt insulted when Narendra Modi forcibly held his hand and skipped the farewell lunch, calling the situation deeply embarrassing for India.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Sep, 2026) A senior Indian journalist has claimed that the Chinese president and other leaders left the BRICS Summit in India early because of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inappropriate conduct, including forcibly shaking hands, and said India did not deserve to host any international event in the future.
He called the situation deeply embarrassing.
In a post on X, the journalist said a farewell lunch was scheduled after the BRICS meeting, but the Chinese president did not attend it.
He reportedly got into his car before the lunch began, went straight to the airport and took a flight out of India.
The journalist said people were asking why the Chinese president had left India so quickly, claiming the reason was that he felt insulted when Modi was forcibly holding his hand.
He further claimed that the Chinese president left the BRICS Summit in India early because of the Indian prime minister’s inappropriate conduct, including forcibly shaking hands.
He also said that, in front of the Chinese president, Modi remarked that it should not be “VIP,” but that everyone should meet. In contrast, he said, India and European countries depend on China.
