12 Professional Beggars Arrested In Quetta, Sent Them To Jail


QUETTA, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Sep, 2026) At least 12 professional beggars including women arrested in respective area of Quetta during operation and sent them to Jail for 30 days.

On special directives of Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran, Director General of Social Welfare Balochistan, a crackdown to eradicate professional begging is underway in Quetta city under the supervision of the Social Welfare Department and the Quetta West district administration.

Operations were conducted in various areas of Quetta including Sariab Road, Qambrani Road, and Zamindar Gali, resulting in the arrest of 12 professional beggars, comprising 11 women and one man.

Most of the arrested individuals are reported to be residents of Quetta city.

Following necessary legal formalities, they were handed over to the district administration and subsequently sent to jail for a period of 30 days.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Social Welfare Balochistan Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran stated that enforcement actions alone are insufficient to eliminate professional begging; effective measures for the rehabilitation, welfare, and social reintegration of such individuals are also essential.

He added that the Social Welfare Department is actively working on a comprehensive program and effective strategy to eradicate professional begging, identify the truly needy, facilitate their rehabilitation, and integrate them into society as productive, dignified citizens; this initiative is nearing completion.

Mir Saifullah Khan Khetran stated that operations to end professional begging in Quetta city would continue through the collaboration of the Social Welfare Department and the district administration.

He said that practical measures would also be taken for the welfare of the truly deserving and needy.

He remarked that providing facilities and opportunities for dignified employment to the deserving members of society is among the government‘s priorities, and effective coordination and cooperation among relevant institutions to be further enhanced to achieve this objective.
