Pakistan has conveyed Saudi Arabia’s message to Iran, the defence minister said in a private television programme.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th Sep, 2026) Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that, in his view, the situation has emerged in which the Mecca Agreement needs to be implemented.
Speaking on a private television programme, the defence minister said he could not go into details but Pakistan was bound to implement the Mecca Agreement.
He said Pakistan had conveyed Saudi Arabia’s message to Iran, adding that he did not think Iran, as a state, would open a new front in the region.
Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that even if the Mecca Agreement did not exist, protecting the holy sites was Pakistan’s duty.
He said there would be no need for an agreement to protect Makkah if it came under attack.
He said the Mecca Agreement applied to Pakistan and the country would fulfil its duty. “I think the situation has emerged in which the Mecca Agreement needs to be implemented,” he added.
