ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th Sep, 2026) Scattered rain-windstorm/thundershower is expected in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan, while isolated rain is likely in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northeast Balochistan on Thursday, with isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorm also expected during the period.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), hot and humid weather is expected in the southern parts of the country.
The PMD warned that heavy rains during the night and on September 17 may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi.
Heavy rains may also generate flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
The department also warned of possible landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures, including solar panels, electric poles and billboards, it added.
In Islamabad and surrounding areas, partly cloudy weather with isolated rain-wind/thundershower is expected, with a 40 percent probability of rain.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind/thundershower is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Parachinar, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorm may also occur.
In Punjab, partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts, with rain-windstorm/thundershower likely in Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, Layyah, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Vehari, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and adjoining areas. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorm may also occur.
In Sindh, hot and dry weather is expected in most districts, while partly cloudy conditions with chances of drizzle are likely at isolated places in coastal areas.
In Balochistan, hot and humid weather is expected in most districts. Coastal areas are likely to remain partly cloudy, while rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Sherani, Dera Bugti, Kohlu and Khuzdar.
Partly cloudy weather with isolated rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the past 24 hours, weather remained hot and humid over most plain areas of the country. Isolated rain-wind/thundershower occurred in south Punjab, northeast Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Dera Ghazi Khan received 19 mm of rain, Kot Addu 02 mm and Faisalabad 01 mm in Punjab; Kalam 12 mm, Malam Jabba and Upper Dir 02 mm, and Drosh and Pattan 01 mm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Barkhan 03 mm and Khuzdar 01 mm in Balochistan; and Gupis and Hunza 01 mm in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Nokkundi and Turbat recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43 C, followed by Dalbandin, Lasbella and Bahawalnagar at 42 C.
The minimum and maximum temperatures recorded in major cities were: Islamabad 20/33 C, Lahore 25/35 C, Karachi 28/37 C, Peshawar 22/34 C, Quetta 21/35 C, Gilgit 15/30 C, Muzaffarabad 20/36 C, Skardu 14/28 C, Murree 13/22 C, Faisalabad 25/36 C and Multan 27/37 C.
