Officials say it appears difficult to file even 3 million tax returns under the current situation.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026) Lahore Tax Bar Association has expressed serious concerns over technical glitches in the IRIS system, saying taxpayers and tax practitioners are facing severe difficulties in filing income tax returns due to technical problems and frequent system outages.
If the situation persists, it appears difficult to file even 3 million returns this year, compared with 5.9 million returns last year.
Lahore Tax Bar President Rana Saqib Munir, General Secretary Farooq Gujjar, Vice President Mian Usman Javed, Joint Secretary Ali Raza Cheema and Finance Secretary Saad Ayub Khan said it was the Federal board of Revenue’s responsibility to provide taxpayers with the best possible facilities for filing returns.
They said repeated system failures were not only causing difficulties for taxpayers but were also affecting the timely completion of tax returns.
They demanded that the duration of the fixed easy tax scheme introduced for retailers be set at a minimum of five years so that traders could gain confidence in policy continuity and easily become part of the tax system.
They also called for the scheme to be widely promoted and publicised, and urged the government to incorporate the proposals of all stakeholders while formulating tax policy.
