More than 43 percent of the government budget is spent on debt, leaving no room to address public problems, a research institute survey says.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 14th Sep, 2026) Rising electricity and gas prices are the top concern among the Pakistani public, according to a survey released by the Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR).
Nineteen percent of Pakistanis expressed serious concern and described higher electricity and gas prices as a major problem.
Seventeen percent also identified rising prices of daily-use items as a source of concern.
According to the survey, 16 percent cited unemployment, 10 percent increases in petroleum product prices, and 7 percent lack of access to healthcare facilities as major issues facing the country.
IPOR also highlighted difficulties in resolving public problems, stating that approximately 43 percent of the government budget—more than 8 trillion rupees—is spent on debt, leaving no room to address public issues.
