Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said attempting to kidnap a provincial chief minister was no small matter and that pressure would now be brought on those responsible.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 14th Sep, 2026) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has alleged that Punjab Police tried to kidnap him and then threw him onto the middle of the road, saying that attempting to kidnap a provincial chief minister was no small matter and that those responsible would now face pressure.
Earlier, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi himself sat in a police van to secure the release of his workers. He told police that he would not get out of the vehicle until his workers were released.
Meanwhile, speaking to UrduPoint, PTI leader Shaukat Basra said police had detained the Lahore leadership and arrested hundreds of their people. He said they were heading towards Liberty when police set up checkpoints and arrested their people.
Sohail Afridi announced that they would not leave until their leadership and workers were released.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi met the family of long-serving PTI martyr worker Ishtiaq Ahmed in Lahore and expressed strong anger over the Punjab Police action.
The chief minister offered prayers for Ishtiaq Ahmed, conveyed heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his family, and prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s درجات and patience for the bereaved family.
Assuring the family of all possible cooperation and assistance, he said that throwing Ishtiaq Ahmed into a cauldron of hot oil was extremely tragic, condemnable and unacceptable. Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan and other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders also accompanied the chief minister.
Later, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi led a street-movement rally in Lahore regarding the 27 September long march. At various locations, PTI workers and supporters of Imran Khan gave him an enthusiastic welcome with passionate slogans.
Addressing workers at the Do Moria Bridge in Lahore, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi said he had clearly told Punjab Police that he did not need security from those who had martyred Ishtiaq Ahmed, a worker preparing for Milad. He said Punjab Police should return to its police stations, adding that the people of Punjab hated them and their uniform.
