In what capacity was Maryam Nawaz’s future son-in-law seated in the front row at the ceremony? Journalist Majid Nizami questioned in an X post.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th Sep, 2026) A new debate has emerged on social media over the seating plan and protocol arrangements at last month’s Victory Monument ceremony, where a family member was present in the front row alongside senior state and military leadership.

In this regard, journalist Majid Nizami questioned on the social media platform in what constitutional, legal or official capacity Azaan Jabbar—then the future and now the son-in-law of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif—was seated in the front row at the important government ceremony.

Criticizing the government protocol, he wrote: Is being Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law such an important qualification that he should be placed alongside the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman Senate, Speaker of the National Assembly, Federal cabinet, Chief of Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal, Chief of Naval Staff and Commander Strategic Command?

Similarly, journalist Adil Nizami wrote in his post that when Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at the ceremony on Aug.

24, journalists present there were unfamiliar with the person accompanying her. He wrote that when Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz arrived at the inauguration ceremony of the Victory Monument, nobody knew the identity of the person accompanying her.

He said he also asked fellow journalists sitting nearby during the ceremony who the person was, and later learned that he was Azaan Jabbar, Maryam Nawaz’s then future son-in-law.
