Ishtiaq Khan was seriously injured in an incident at the residence of PTI leader Zubair Niazi on 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal and was shifted to Mayo Hospital for treatment.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13th Sep, 2026) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Ishtiaq Khan, who suffered severe burns after falling into a pan of boiling oil during Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal amid an alleged police raid, died after battling for his life at Mayo Hospital for 18 days.
According to a statement posted on social media by PTI leader Zubair Niazi, Ishtiaq Khan was seriously injured in the tragic incident on 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal and was shifted to Mayo Hospital for treatment.
Despite doctors’ prolonged efforts, he could not survive and succumbed to his injuries.
It was reported that the deceased’s funeral prayer was offered today at a cemetery near GT Road, opposite the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).
A large number of party workers, relatives and family members attended the funeral.
It may be recalled that police allegedly raided the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan’s close relative and PTI leader Zubair Niazi in Lahore’s Rajgarh area during a Milad gathering and detained several leaders and workers.
PTI leader Zubair Niazi had stated that a large police contingent raided his house in Rajgarh while the Milad gathering was being held. Police took his mother, his brother, Advocate Sharjeel Khan Niazi, Punjab Assembly member Saadia Ayub, Ishtiaq Khan, Mubeen Ahmed and Khalid Awan, among 16 people present at the site, into custody and transferred them to the police station.
The PTI leader said that Ishtiaq Khan, who was attending the Milad gathering, and another person fell into a pan of hot oil during a stampede when police allegedly stormed the gathering.
He said that, despite being injured, Ishtiaq was arrested and taken away by police. His mother was released shortly after being detained, while all the other leaders, lawyers and workers remained in police custody.
