Vaccination has also been made mandatory for Hajj pilgrims after specific-country travellers and Umrah pilgrims; boarding passes will not be issued without vaccination certificates, says Dr Syed Murtaza Shah Bukhari.
KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) NADRA digital vaccination for polio, meningitis, yellow fever and influenza will apply only to Umrah pilgrims departing from Karachi Airport.
Speaking to a private tv channel, Federal Airport Health Department Border Health Services focal person Dr Syed Murtaza Shah Bukhari said travel restrictions would apply to Umrah passengers departing from Karachi Airport after 14 September if they did not have a NADRA vaccination certificate.
The Federal Government Civil Dispensary is the only authorised centre for vaccination. Dr Murtaza said vaccination would also become mandatory for Hajj pilgrims after specific-country travellers and Umrah pilgrims.
He said the requirement was being implemented immediately for passengers travelling from Karachi, while it would later be extended to Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore. He advised Umrah pilgrims to obtain certificates from an authorised NADRA vaccination centre before travelling.
Yellow fever vaccination is also mandatory for passengers arriving from Africa, Central America and South America, as well as passengers transiting for 10 hours in Africa, Central America or South America.
According to Dr Murtaza, passengers aged one year or above will be required to show a certificate upon entering Pakistan. Passengers who currently do not have a certificate should reach the airport at least six hours before departure, as vaccination arrangements are being made at health counters in the Karachi Airport departure area.
Dr Murtaza Bukhari said awareness notices had been issued to station managers of all airlines and travel agents. Airlines and agents would be required to inform passengers and would not issue boarding passes without these vaccination certificates.
He said an attempt had been made through the previous day’s announcement to create the impression that vaccination certificates were mandatory for passengers on all international flights, which was incorrect. The vaccination certificate is mandatory only for Umrah pilgrims, who have been barred from travelling without a NADRA vaccination certificate.
