Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said in her remarks and statement during the meeting that young people and students should be protected from fake information, hate content and anti-state propaganda.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) A fourth meeting of the Information Steering/Review Committee was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Information and Culture Minister Uzma Bukhari to review in detail the implementation and progress of the revised National Action Plan in Punjab, as well as the future course of action.
Punjab Information Secretary Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani and representatives of relevant departments attended the meeting.
The information secretary briefed participants on progress made and various measures taken in light of the decisions of the previous meeting. The meeting was informed about steps being taken to improve departmental coordination, provide responsible information and timely counter misleading narratives.
Measures to address disinformation, hate content, negative propaganda and anti-state narratives were also reviewed.
Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said disinformation and negative narratives could not be countered merely through reaction; rather, a timely, fact-based, coordinated and proactive strategy was required.
She said all relevant departments should work under a joint strategy with mutual coordination and complete harmony.
Uzma Bukhari said the Information and Culture Department had played an effective and dynamic role in achieving the objectives of the National Action Plan.
She added that Pakistan’s achievements during Marka-e-Haq and the national narrative should also be highlighted effectively.
Uzma Bukhari said young people and students could be particularly affected by misleading and negative content on digital and social media platforms.
Therefore, promoting media literacy and responsible digital behaviour among them was an urgent need. She directed that school counselling and other relevant forums in educational institutions be effectively involved and special measures be taken to raise students’ awareness.
Students should be educated about responsible social media use, identifying fake and misleading information, and fact-checking.
The information minister said it was essential to develop critical thinking and media literacy skills among students so they could distinguish verified and authentic information from fake and fabricated content.
She said educational institutions could play a key role in promoting social harmony, tolerance and a positive national narrative.
The meeting decided that all relevant institutions would play their effective role in countering disinformation, hate speech and anti-state propaganda, while coordination and a joint strategy for this purpose would be further strengthened.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Punjab Information and Culture Minister Uzma Bukhari said, “Those who impose themselves on the Pashtuns and are called Pashtuns are actually insulting the Pashtuns.
These are filthy, vile wild people who, unfortunately, have been imposed on the Pashtuns. A few other people who also speak such filth came to Lahore and created a mess, so I said they could not be Pashtuns; such acts are committed by wild people.
Thank you for repeatedly proving me right. Do not insult the Pashtuns by calling yourselves Pashtuns.” Uzma Bukhari also shared various statements by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf people.
