According to the foreign news agency Axios, two US officials said Mohammed bin Salman first spoke with Trump on Thursday about the Houthi advance and the situation in Yemen.
He contacted him again several hours later to request US military action against the Houthis.
According to US officials, the Trump administration currently has no plans for direct military intervention in Yemen.
Washington’s priority is to remain focused on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz while ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
The report said tensions in the region have increased further after the Houthis advanced toward key coastal areas in Yemen.
The Houthi presence near the Bab al-Mandab Strait is causing concern for global trade and Saudi oil exports. Oil prices also rose in global markets amid the situation.
The United States is increasing support for Saudi Arabia while avoiding direct action.
US Central Command commander Admiral Brad Cooper also visited Saudi Arabia on Thursday and attended emergency coordination meetings.
According to US officials, Washington will provide Saudi Arabia with intelligence and targeting information related to the Houthis.
Around 200 US troops are already present in Saudi Arabia, providing non-combat support.
US officials said Washington remains in continuous contact with Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government to promote regional stability, while avoiding opening a new front in Yemen.
