President Asif Zardari Being Pressured To Resign Or Fight: Mohsin Baig

Both options would lead to further political instability, and creating provinces by sidelining the PPP would cause serious damage; there is currently an atmosphere of tension.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) Senior journalist Mohsin Baig says debate is currently taking place in various circles over the creation of new provinces and administrative units.

He said President Asif Zardari is being pressured either to resign or to enter into a confrontation over the issue, and both scenarios would lead to further political instability. According to a post by Mohsin Baig on X, provinces should certainly be created, and it would have been better if they had been established much earlier.

However, several political parties have reservations about the manner in which the new provinces were announced. The Sindh government and the Pakistan Peoples Party were pushed on the issue, and the Sindh Assembly passed another resolution opposing the division of Sindh.

The situation is currently tense.

Those who have launched this campaign have done nothing beyond sending a message, as they have neither influence nor expertise regarding the matter.

New provinces will be created in accordance with the 1973 Constitution, which sets out the procedure for establishing provinces.

Any attempt to forcibly create new provinces outside this constitutional framework would cause further deterioration. Creating provinces while excluding the Pakistan Peoples Party would lead to an even greater crisis.

President Asif Zardari is currently being pressured either to resign or to enter into a confrontation over the issue, and both scenarios would bring further political instability. Conditions are already very poor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir, with the law and order situation extremely deteriorated.

If provinces are created without debate and consensus, this instability will spread to central Pakistan. Therefore, all stakeholders must be taken into confidence, discussions and negotiations must be held, and a decision should then be made on the provincial issue.

There is currently talk of creating provinces, but no one is explaining what the formula for provinces or administrative units will be, or under what formula they will be governed.

How will resources be distributed? What will be the procedure for demarcation? If a local government system is introduced after the creation of administrative units, how will it function? These are questions that must first be answered. Provinces or administrative units should then be created through national consensus.
