KP Assembly Passes Resolution Against Statements By Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah

The resolution demanded action under Article 6, saying the use of terrorism, a sensitive national issue, for political point-scoring and blame games is against the national interest.

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a resolution against statements by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah and Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with terrorism, demanding action in light of Article 6 of the Constitution.

The resolution was presented by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam and passed by a majority vote.

It strongly condemned what it described as allegedly irresponsible and factually inaccurate statements against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that using terrorism, a sensitive national issue, for political point-scoring and blame games was against the national interest.

According to the resolution, statements by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other PML-N leaders were contrary to facts and motivated by political interests.

It said such statements amounted to insulting the unprecedented sacrifices rendered by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, its police and security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The resolution stated that terrorism was not the problem of any single province or region but a shared challenge for the entire state and nation.

Therefore, this sensitive national security issue should be discussed in accordance with the Constitution and law, beyond political blame games.

It further said that using terrorism for political interests and pitting one province against another was harmful to national unity and Pakistan’s Federal cohesion.

The resolution also stressed the need to maintain national solidarity against terrorism.

The resolution demanded legal action against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over alleged constitutional violations.

The assembly asked the federal government to take necessary action in light of the requirements of Article 6 of the Constitution.

It said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, its police and security forces had made heavy human and financial sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

Therefore, attempts to make these sacrifices controversial or blame the province for terrorism were condemnable.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly stressed that cooperation between the federal and provincial governments, national unity and a joint strategy should be promoted to address the terrorism challenge facing the country instead of resorting to blame games.

The resolution demanded that national security matters be kept separate from political disputes and that the joint struggle of state institutions, all provinces and the people against terrorism be strengthened.
