US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others discussed the concern with President Trump during briefings at the Oval Office and Situation Room, a US broadcaster reported, citing sources.
WASHINGTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) Senior White House advisers have privately warned President Donald Trump that the war with Iran could continue until the end of his presidency, US officials said.
A US broadcaster, citing officials, reported that during briefings at the Oval Office and Situation Room, US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others discussed with President Trump the concern that Iran could continue resisting the US blockade and other military tactics for an extended period.
According to Trump‘s advisers, the conflict could potentially continue until the inauguration of a new president in January 2029.
The broadcaster said the issue emerged a day after Trump told reporters that the war would end immediately after the midterm elections in November because Iran would be unable to continue resisting.
Officials believe that a war lasting several years would place severe pressure on US military resources and could also create the risk of a prolonged crisis in global oil markets. The broadcaster reported that both JD Vance and Marco Rubio are viewed as potential candidates in the next presidential election, although neither has formally announced a bid.
It said the admission by senior US aides contradicts Trump‘s claims that the United States has defeated Iranian forces and that Iran will surrender soon. In view of the conflict’s potential prolongation, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has extended until 2027 the deployment of some troops in the middle East to provide President Trump with military options.
