76% Of Pakistanis Believe Country Is Heading In Wrong Direction: IPSOS Survey, Maleeha Lodhi

The public’s issue is not new provinces but economic reforms, while the debate over new provinces has divided the country, says Dr Maleeha Lodhi.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) Former ambassador Dr Maleeha Lodhi said that the public’s issue is not new provinces but economic reforms, adding that the debate over new provinces has divided the country and that the proposal is a drama.

Speaking on a Geo news programme, she said an IPSOS survey showed that 76 percent of Pakistanis believed the country was heading in the wrong direction.

The public’s issue is not new provinces but economic reforms.

The debate over new provinces has divided the country, whereas Pakistan needs unity today.

New provinces are a drama.

On the establishment of new provinces, the Tehreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan said in a policy statement that creating provinces through an executive order, on the pattern of districts, would be considered a direct attack on Pakistan.

According to PTI’s X account, Leader of the Opposition Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that the Constitution of Pakistan clearly lays down the procedure for the formation of provinces.

On the contrary, creating provinces through mere administrative orders, on the pattern of districts, would be considered a direct attack on the foundation of Pakistan.

We warn these forces that, in the event of any such unconstitutional action, it will not be possible to contain the public reaction, and the entire nation will take to the streets in protest. Pakistan can no longer afford any such crisis or adventurism.
