Following Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, the Pakistan Navy has entered blue waters, while Pakistan’s actions are defensive rather than retaliatory, analyst Syed Muhammad Ali says.
Speaking on Hum news’ program, he said that yesterday the prime minister, defense minister and Foreign Office also condemned the Houthi attacks. He said the Pakistan Navy is now present in blue waters and ready to defend Saudi Arabia.
The Pakistan Air Force is present in Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan’s military is currently defending the kingdom and thwarting attacks. Under the pact, Pakistan is required to thwart Houthi attacks; the agreement concerns defense, not aggression or retaliation.
Pakistan stands fully with Saudi Arabia against the attacks. The Pakistan Air Force is also present in Saudi Arabia, but any action will be determined by the nature of the threat facing the kingdom.
The Houthis are regarded as a non-state actor under international law. Pakistan is also continuing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire. Pakistan’s action will not be retaliatory but defensive: it will thwart Houthi attacks so that they cannot strike their targets. Pakistan will not commit aggression against any third country.
