KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) Two state-of-the-art laboratories were inaugurated at the Department of Chemistry, University of Karachi, on Tuesday include the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory dedicated to Shahid Ahmed, a distinguished alumnus of the department from the class of 1973 and a respected former faculty member, while the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory has been named after Maryam Darsot, a former student of the department and spouse of Shahid Ahmed.
The KU Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr Bilquees Gul led the inauguration ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, former teachers and alumni of the Department of Chemistry Class 1973 emphasized that talented and capable students may face temporary challenges in practical life, but such difficulties should never hinder their progress.
They urged students not to consider themselves inferior to anyone and to continue striving with dedication, perseverance, and consistency to achieve their goals.
Speakers highlighted that determination and hard work can transform dreams into reality.
They noted that graduates of the Department of Chemistry, despite hardships, have continued their journey of effort and commitment, and today they are excelling in countries such as the United States, Canada, and many others, where they are rendering distinguished services and earning recognition for their abilities.
The KU Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Dr Bilquees Gul remarked that all stakeholders must play their role in ensuring a brighter future for students and the progress of the institution.
She described the establishment of laboratories in line with modern academic needs as a welcome initiative, adding that it is now up to the students to make the most of these facilities, harness their potential, and bring honor to their department, university, and country.
