The PPP senator asked when political governments had held referendums, saying referendums had a poor reputation in the country, during a private TV programme.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Palwasha Khan asked whether a referendum could abolish the procedure laid down in the Constitution. Senator Palwasha Khan, Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik and PTI leader Shafi Jan participated in a private tv programme.
The PPP senator said referendums had a very poor reputation in the country and asked when political governments had held referendums.
She said that when a procedure was prescribed in the Constitution, could a referendum abolish it?
Palwasha Khan said the PPP had maintained from the outset that people should get what they wanted.
She said they had heard that a Senate session was expected from 17 September, adding that discussion on the matter was taking place everywhere except where it should be held. She said the PPP had not treated the PTI in the way the PML-N had treated it in Lahore.
