The PIA Board, chaired by Lieutenant General (retd) Anwar Ali Haider, made key decisions to activate the national airline’s operations and expand its fleet.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) A proposal to increase the salaries of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees was presented to the board. According to details, an important meeting of the PIA Board was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of PIA Board Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Anwar Ali Haider, during which several key decisions were taken to activate the national airline’s operations and expand its fleet.
The Chief Financial Officer presented the proposal to increase PIA employees’ salaries before the meeting.
Sources said the meeting also considered recruiting new flight attendants (cabin crew) for the airline and approving new uniforms for them.
The board was briefed on obtaining two new Boeing aircraft for PIA on a wet-lease basis, after which matters related to leasing both aircraft are expected to be finalized soon.
It was decided that PIA’s grounded Boeing aircraft would be repaired and re-added to the fleet shortly. The board was informed that spare parts required for aircraft maintenance were being purchased.
It may be recalled that, after the banks, the Civil Aviation Authority provided financial assistance to PIA.
The Civil Aviation Authority released 1 billion rupees in funds to PIA. Sources said that, after receiving the funds, PIA paid its employees’ salaries.
The banks approved a loan for PIA as soon as the decision to privatize the national airline was made.
