PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th Sep, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman has taken notice of reports of chikungunya cases in Speen Kandi and Ziarat Kaka Sahib areas of Nowshera district and directed the health authorities to take immediate and effective measures to contain the disease.
Following the minister’s directives, the District Health Officer Nowshera visited the Category-D hospital in the affected area and reviewed the situation.
He also inspected the availability of essential medicines and vaccines and directed that the presence of doctors, nurses and other medical staff be ensured to provide timely healthcare to residents.
Health department teams have reached the affected village and launched anti-mosquito spraying across the area. The teams are also conducting door-to-door visits to provide necessary medicines and distributing mosquito nets among residents as part of preventive measures.
The health minister urged people not to panic or pay heed to rumours, saying the situation was being closely monitored by the Health Department and all possible medical and preventive facilities were being provided.
He said the initial cases had been suspected to be malaria, but subsequent medical examinations and diagnostic tests confirmed chikungunya virus infection.
The minister directed the relevant authorities to maintain continuous surveillance, ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and medical staff, and take all possible measures to prevent further spread of the disease.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with health teams and follow precautionary measures, expressing confidence that the situation would soon be brought under control.
Khaliq-ur-Rehman said protection of public health remained the government’s top priority and all available resources would be utilised to deal with any possible outbreak.
