RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd Sep, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi, Salman Ghani on Wednesday chaired a high level review meeting on the water transmission project from Dadhocha Dam, directing civic authorities to install high-precision water meters, enforce greywater recycling and construct rainwater recharge wells across the district.
The meeting, attended by Director Development Syed Nazarat Ali Shah, Managing Director WASA Azizullah Khan, and representatives from the Cantonment Boards, Housing and Irrigation departments, evaluated the overall water availability, existing supply networks, and projected municipal requirements of Rawalpindi.
WASA officials informed the meeting that the city currently faces a 21 million gallons per day (mgd) shortfall, receiving 51 mgd from Rawal Dam, Khanpur Dam and tube wells against a total requirement of 72 mgd.
Once operational, Dadhocha Dam will supply 35 mgd to Rawalpindi, with 15 mgd allocated to WASA and the remaining 20 mgd distributed to the Cantonment Boards and DHA.
Addressing the participants, Commissioner said that the provision of clean drinking water remains a top priority and stressed the need for efficient utilization and water conservation. He directed all relevant departments to establish a coordinated monitoring mechanism, deploy advanced metering technology to prevent water wastage, and directed the use of greywater for horticulture.
He also ordered the construction of rainwater harvesting tanks and recharge wells to replenish groundwater levels.
The commissioner constituted a joint technical committee to inspect the dam site and submit recommendations regarding pipeline networks, metering systems, distribution points and pumping stations.
