LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 2nd Sep, 2026) Punjab Police have approved a number of measures to enhance welfare benefits for serving and retired employees and their families, including increased marriage grants, educational scholarships and medical assistance.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Police Welfare Board chaired by Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.
The marriage grant for each daughter of a police martyr has been increased from Rs500,000 to Rs750,000, while the grant for daughters of police employees who die during service has been raised from Rs200,000 to Rs500,000.
The marriage grant for daughters of serving and retired police employees has also been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs250,000.
Under the new measures, children of police employees in grades 1 to 17 securing admission to degree programmes in engineering, medicine, MBBS and business administration would be eligible for scholarships covering the full fee of specialised private institutions.
The annual scholarship for children of Class-IV police employees studying for matriculation has been raised from Rs5,000 to Rs20,000, while that for children studying at intermediate level has been increased from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000.
The annual scholarship for children pursuing graduation and BS (Honours) has been fixed at a minimum of Rs60,000.
The board also increased the scholarship for autistic children of police employees from Rs30,000 to Rs75,000 and enhanced the therapy and study fund from Rs400,000 to Rs1.5 million.
Medical assistance for police employees suffering from benign cancer has been increased from Rs200,000 to Rs400,000, while the grant for their wives and children has been raised from Rs100,000 to Rs200,000.
For employees suffering from malignant cancer, the medical grant has been doubled from Rs500,000 to Rs one million, while the grant for their wives and children has been increased from Rs250,000 to Rs500,000.
The financial grant for minor surgery has also been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000 for police employees and from Rs75,000 to Rs100,000 for their wives and children.
Additional inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and other senior police officers attended the meeting. DIG Welfare and Finance Mehboob Rasheed presented the welfare proposals, which were reviewed and approved by the board.
