The meeting, attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Enforcement Abdul Rehman Khan, Medical Superintendents (MS) of major teaching and district hospitals and administrative officials, conducted a technical review of fire extinguishers, smoke alarm systems, fire hydrants, emergency exit routes and electrical wiring networks.

Directing hospital managements to address operational deficiencies immediately, the deputy commissioner instructed that all fire suppression equipment must remain functional round-the-clock and emergency exits must be kept completely clear and accessible.

He ordered the formulation of strict evacuation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safe exit of patients, attendants, and medical personnel during potential disasters, stressing that the protection of infants, pediatric wards, and intensive care units (ICUs) remains paramount.

To test operational readiness, Captain (Retd) Nadeem Nasir ordered regular mock fire drills, routine testing of smoke detectors, and the installation of prominent direction signboards along emergency routes.

He further instructed administrative officers to execute continuous monitoring and rectify technical glitches in electrical setups on a priority basis to minimize short-circuit hazards across all health facilities.
