LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29th Aug, 2026) England finished the day two of the second Test match with 81 for three on the board and 261 runs ahead of Pakistan in their second innings here at the Lord’s cricket Ground in London on Saturday as bad light forced early call for stumps.
A passing shower in the afternoon and bad light towards the end of the day meant only 70 overs were bowled in the day with England taking big strides as they bowled out Pakistan for 110 in 37.2 overs in reply to the hosts’ 290-run first innings total.
At the beginning of the day, England’s last pair extended their overnight five-run stand to 47 runs before Ali Usman struck to remove Atkinson for 45 off 46 balls. Josh Tongue remained unbeaten on 30 off 48 balls having struck four boundaries.
Atkinson and Tongue were able to bat for 10.4 overs on the second day before taking England’s score from 248-9 to 290 all out in 66.4 overs. In response, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq to overnight calf strain as he was unable to bat with Shan Masood pairing up with Azan Awais to open the innings.
Among Pakistan batters, only Azan Awais managed to put up resistance with a dogged 102-ball 46 including seven fours, while no one else entered double figures except Saud Shakeel (16, 16b, 4x4s).
Robinson bagged figures of four for 11 in 13 overs including six maidens. Jofra Archer picked up three, while Tongue accounted for two batters. Archer and Tongue had snapped Shan and Abdullah Shafique early, respectively as Pakistan went to lunch with 16 runs on the board.
Babar Azam fell to Tongue in the 17th over after which Saud and Azan tried to salvage the innings but their budding stand worth 33 off 5.1 overs was broken by Robinson, who pinned Saud leg-before. Pakistan lost five for 37 in the last 44 balls of their innings as England managed a healthy 180-run lead.
In turn, Khurram struck on the second over of the innings on his third ball to send back Ben Duckett for just one off six balls as he handed a catch to Babar at mid-off. Khurram then returned in his next over and wrapped Jordan Cox on the pads on first ball of the over reducing England to 13-2 in 3.2 overs.
Skipper Joe Root was the next batter to fall but not before piling on 47 runs for the third wicket with Emilio Gay (30 not out, 69b, 6x4s). Mohammad Ali got him leg-before wicket as England were 60-3 in 16.3 overs.
Harry Brook (7, 13b, 1×4) and Gay then saw off the next 33 balls unscathed scoring 21 runs in tandem before teams went off for bad light and eventually stumps were drawn a few minutes later.
