DG GDA Chairs Meeting To Review Water Supply Situation, Billing Recovery

QUETTA, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 28th Aug, 2026) Director General Gwadar Development Authority Moin ur Rahman Khan chaired a meeting of the Water Section to review the situation of water supply, storage, distribution, billing, and recovery in Gwadar.

The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer GDA Haji Syed Muhammad, PD Water Mir Jan, Director Finance Abdul Shakoor Baloch, Executive Engineer Distribution Muhammad Akbar Baloch, and other officials.

Officials briefed the meeting that water reserves in Sawad Dam are rapidly depleting, with the current stock sufficient for only two to three months. To maintain uninterrupted supply, water from Shadi Kaur Dam has also been activated, ensuring a combined daily provision of nearly 3 to 3.5 million gallons. The DG directed effective management of available resources and utilization of all alternative sources.

The meeting also reviewed the 1.2 MGD water desalination plant provided by China, with a decision to coordinate with Gwadar Port authorities to run it at full capacity. Performance of the past year, since GDA assumed responsibility for Gwadar’s water supply, was assessed with satisfaction expressed that despite last year’s crisis and subsequent challenges, water was delivered effectively without major complaints.

The DG emphasized improving sustainability of the water supply system and directed strict measures for recovery of outstanding dues. It was noted that Rs. 157 million remain unpaid by the New Town Housing Scheme, and departments were instructed to pursue recovery from major consumers and government institutions.

Concerns were raised over high operational costs at Shadi Kaur pumping station, which runs 24 hours on diesel due to lack of electricity. Citizens were urged to practice water conservation and ensure timely payment of bills. The meeting also reviewed water supply to villages connected to the Shadi Kaur transmission line, where long-standing shortages have now been resolved. The DG praised the efforts of the teams and directed that all available resources be utilized to guarantee water supply to both urban and rural populations.
