PHC Takes Serious Notice Of Erroneous Zero Marks Awarded To Student By BISE Peshawar

PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Aug, 2026) The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday took serious notice of a glaring marking error involving a ninth-grade student who was initially awarded zero marks in Biology but secured 72 out of 75 marks after his answer sheet was rechecked on the court’s intervention.

The student, Abdul Moeez, had been declared unsuccessful after receiving zero marks in his Biology paper. During the proceedings, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary education (BISE) Peshawar produced the original answer sheet and acknowledged that the zero had been awarded due to an error.

Following rechecking, the student was awarded 72 marks out of 75, effectively overturning the earlier result.

Justice Ijaz Anwar expressed strong displeasure over the incident and observed that negligence on the part of an examination board could seriously jeopardise a student’s academic future.

The court also questioned the plight of students who lacked the financial means to seek legal assistance, noting that the affected student was able to approach the court because his father was a lawyer.

Taking the matter seriously, the high court summoned the Chairman of the Board and Controller of Examinations in person at the next hearing, directing them to appear along with the student’s original answer sheet.

The case has raised concerns over examination and marking procedures and the need for effective safeguards to prevent such errors from affecting students’ academic careers.
