ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24th Aug, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Vice President and Senator Sherry Rehman has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi, who was reportedly a victim of domestic violence.
Senator Sherry Rehman termed the killing of yet another woman subjected to domestic violence deeply tragic and heartbreaking. She stressed that domestic violence cannot be dismissed as a private or family matter, warning that such a mindset poses a serious threat to women’s safety and must be challenged at the societal level.
She said that laws are already in place to protect women, but there is an urgent need for their effective, immediate and non-discriminatory implementation. She expressed concern over the low conviction rate in domestic violence cases and called for effective prosecution to ensure justice for victims.
Senator Sherry Rehman further stated that Parliament has already undertaken legislation in this regard, and courts must now ensure speedy trials in such cases and award punishments in accordance with the law without unnecessary delay.
She called for a complete and impartial investigation into Hina Javed’s murder and demanded that all those responsible be brought to justice. She emphasized that legal action against the accused must be taken without pressure, influence or leniency.
Senator Sherry Rehman said that those found guilty must receive exemplary punishment to help prevent such serious crimes in the future. She also called for strengthening systems providing immediate legal protection, safe shelter and effective support to women facing violence.
She emphasized that collective awareness must be further promoted to ensure respect, protection and equal rights for women, stressing that society must work together to create an environment where women can live safely and with dignity.
