KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab laid foundation stone of development projects worth Rs. 860 million in Federal B Industrial Area.
Members of the City Council, elected representatives, industrialists and KMC officers were also present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, the Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the Sindh government had provided a grant of Rs9.5 billion for the industrial areas of Karachi, of which Rs. 860 million had been allocated for the Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry.
He said practical work under the development package had commenced today.He said that improving basic infrastructure in industrial areas and providing better facilities to industrialists were among the government’s priorities.
The development works in Federal B Industrial Area were an important step forward for both industrialists and citizens. The development of industrial areas would not only promote business and industrial activities but also contribute to Karachi’s economic growth.
The Mayor said that practical measures had been taken to improve basic civic facilities, roads and infrastructure in Karachi’s industrial areas. He added that elected representatives, industrialists and local government institutions were working together for the development of Karachi.
With the cooperation of the Sindh government and the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, various development projects were underway across the city. He assured that every possible step would be taken to address the issues faced by industrialists in Federal B Area and to further develop the locality.
On the occasion, industrialists from the Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party for their cooperation in initiating development works in the industrial area.
Participants of the ceremony expressed hope that completion of the development projects would further improve basic facilities in Federal B Industrial Area and boost industrial activities.
Representatives of the Federal B Area Industrial Zone said that the area comprises small, large and cottage industries, while more than 50 percent of the industries are export-oriented. They said that improvement in infrastructure would further strengthen industrial and export activities in the area.
Wahab said that the purpose of these projects was to improve infrastructure in industrial areas and provide better facilities to industrialists. He clarified that December 31, 2026 had been set as the target date for completion of the development works.
The mayor also made an important announcement regarding the revival of the fire brigade system, saying that Rs. 7 billion would be spent to modernize Karachi’s fire brigade. The funds would be used to upgrade fire tenders, while damaged fire tenders would be repaired and brought back onto the roads.
He said that KMC currently had 60 fire tenders, some of which were already undergoing repairs, and that additional fire tenders would soon be brought back into service for the citizens.
Speaking about the water situation, the Mayor of Karachi said that the water shortage was not only a problem for Karachi but for the entire country. However, he said, an alternative water source had been established for industrial areas.
He described the Industrial Water Park project at Haroonabad Sewerage Baghicha as an important milestone and said that the project would initially make 30 million gallons of water available. The target was to subsequently increase the supply from 30 million gallons to 100 million gallons.
Wahab said that practical measures were underway for the development of industrial areas, rehabilitation of the fire brigade and provision of alternative water resources.
He further announced that the Industrial Water Park project would be inaugurated by the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
