LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari on Saturday announced that the Jinnah
Institute of Cardiology has started operations, with heart transplant treatment at the facility to be
provided completely free of charge.
In a statement, the minister said the capacity of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology had rapidly
become insufficient due to Lahore’s growing population.
Keeping public needs in view, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif established
the Jinnah Cardiology Hospital within a short period.
Azma Bokhari further announced that the Chief Minister would soon inaugurate Pakistan’s largest
Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital, which will have a capacity of 1,000 beds.
She said the Cardiology Hospital in Sargodha was also nearing completion, adding that patients
from across Pakistan were receiving free treatment at government hospitals in Punjab.
The provincial minister said Maryam Nawaz had brought about a revolution in the health sector
and introduced a new culture of performance, good governance and merit.
“The results of Maryam Nawaz’s two years of hard work are now becoming visible,” she said.
Azma Bokhari said those who had learned from Punjab should not point fingers at the province.
