LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) Punjab Police have proposed recruitment of 3,565 constables, lady constables and traffic assistants to address a severe shortage of human resources in the force, with Inspector General of Police Punjab recommending relaxation of the recruitment ban to the chief minister Punjab.
According to the summary sent by the IG Punjab, the police force was facing an acute shortage of personnel, with one constable currently responsible for around 940 people against the prescribed ratio of one constable for 450 people.
The summary said that the workload on the Punjab Police was continuously increasing due to the province’s population of around 127 million, making immediate recruitment against 3,565 vacant posts necessary.
According to the summary document, around 3,000 to 4,000 constable posts fall vacant every year due to retirement, death or dismissal.
The proposed recruitment would not place any additional financial burden on the government, as all expenses would be met from the existing budget, the summary said.
The IGP had also recommended obtaining approval from the Standing Committee of the Cabinet for the recruitment. Following approval, the recruitment process would be initiated across Punjab, including Lahore.
