China’s $12.78 Billion Dairy Import Market Offers Opportunities For Pakistani Exporters

BEIJING, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st Aug, 2026) China’s dairy import market was valued at $12.78 billion in 2025, with the country importing 2.66 million tonnes of dairy products. The market is being viewed as a potential opportunity for Pakistani dairy exporters as agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China expands.

According to the Dairy Association of China, the value of China’s dairy imports increased by 13.7 percent year-on-year in 2025. Major imported products include milk powder, whey, cheese and cream, supported by growing domestic demand for dairy products.

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, held a webinar on August 18 to discuss opportunities for Pakistani exporters in the Chinese dairy market.

During the webinar, Trade and Investment Counsellor Muhammad Imran briefed participants on China’s dairy market, consumer trends, import and distribution channels, regulatory requirements and potential business opportunities.

Pakistan has a large dairy production base. According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26, the country produced 74.69 million tonnes of milk during the fiscal year, compared with 72.

34 million tonnes the previous year. Buffaloes accounted for 44.41 million tonnes, while cows produced 28.10 million tonnes.

Pakistan’s dairy industry has the capacity to produce UHT milk, milk powder, cream, butter, ghee and other value-added products. Pakistan Dairy Association CEO Shehzad Amin said the sector has established processing facilities and can meet international quality and Halal standards. He also noted that several Pakistani dairy establishments have been approved by China’s General Administration of Customs for exports to the country.

Dairy trade between the two countries has also recorded recent developments. In April 2025, Pakistan exported camel milk powder to China for the first time. Royal JW Foods, a China-Pakistan joint venture, also exported its first shipment of concentrated buffalo milk to China in 2025 and plans to introduce products such as yogurt, cheese and butter.

Around 20 Pakistani and Chinese companies participated in the webinar to discuss ways to expand dairy trade and develop business partnerships between the two countries.
