MULTAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Aug, 2026) A dangerous proclaimed criminal wanted in several cases of attempted murder, robbery and theft was injured and arrested during a police encounter near Tariqabad in the jurisdiction of BZ Police Station late Monday night.
According to police sources, a police party was conducting patrol, checking and snap checking near Tariqabad when two suspicious persons riding a motorcycle approached. The police signalled them to stop, but the suspects dismounted and opened direct fire on the police party.
The police took cover behind their vehicle and on the roadside and called upon the suspects to stop firing and surrender. However, the suspects continued firing, prompting the police to fire a few shots in self-defence.
After the exchange of fire stopped, one of the suspects managed to flee from the scene under the cover of darkness. When the police searched the area, they found the other suspect lying injured near the road.
The suspect had sustained a gunshot wound to his right calf and was bleeding. Police recovered a 30-bore pistol lying near the injured suspect.
The arrested suspect was identified as Muhammad Shahbaz s/o Ashfaq. Police said that verification of his criminal record revealed his involvement in multiple cases of attempted murder, robbery and theft.
The injured suspect was shifted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, through Rescue 1122 for medical treatment while further investigations were underway, police sources added.
