ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Aug, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and sought its response in a petition challenging the appointments of three vice presidents of the university.
Justice Ayaz Shaukat heard the petition filed by citizen Javed Akhtar against the appointments of vice presidents for Research and Enterprise, Administration and Finance, and Academics.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel, Akash Tara, assisted by lawyer Rehan-ud-Din, argued that the university had failed to follow a transparent procedure for the appointments despite an earlier court ruling requiring IIUI to ensure transparency in its hiring process.
The counsel contended that the university was required to make the appointments through an open merit-based process but instead selected candidates from among existing faculty members.
Justice Ayaz Shaukat asked the petitioner’s counsel to examine whether the board of Governors had delegated its authority to a committee in the matter. The court directed the university to submit its reply within two weeks and adjourned further proceedings.
