DPM Urges Foreign Service Officers To Create Opportunities For Pakistan In Trade, Investment

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th Aug, 2026) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar Monday urged Pakistan’s new generation of diplomats to create new opportunities for Pakistan in the fields of trade, investment, technology, education, tourism and people to people connections.”

While addressing a new batch of foreign service officers at the graduation ceremony of 45th Specialized Diplomatic Course and inauguration of renovated premises of the Foreign Service Academy, he said “Pakistan is seeking stronger partnerships, greater economic opportunities and more confident and constructive engagement with the whole world.”

He congratulated the faculty, new officers and their parents on the completion of the course.

He said the Foreign Service Academy was becoming increasingly a bridge between Pakistan and the international diplomatic community.

The Foreign Service must remain responsive to country’s priorities and capable of advancing Pakistan’s national interests in an increasingly complex international environment,” he noted.

He said, “Economic security is becoming increasingly important, technology is transforming the way countries interact and information across the world now travels in seconds. These changes are reshaping the practice of diplomacy.”

“A diplomat must be much more than a skilled negotiator. You must understand geopolitics, economics, technology and media.

You must be able to communicate clearly, respond quickly and know when to listen,” he remarked.

He said, “Diplomacy is about building bridges and even when countries disagree, diplomats must keep channels of communication open and build understanding and look for areas of common ground.”

He assured the Foreign Service Academy of his full support for making it a centre of excellence for the diplomats of today and for the future generations of Pakistan.

He said he had great confidence in the youth of Pakistan, adding the young diplomats were entering the profession at an important time for the country.

“Diplomacy cannot be learnt from books alone . It is also learnt from experience, and from those who negotiated, represented and served before you.”

He asked the academy to continue strengthening the culture of mentor ship so that the experience of one generation could become the foundation for the next.

Ishaq Dar inaugurated the phase one of the renovation of the academy’s premises and called it an investment in Pakistan’s diplomatic future.

He expressed his appreciation for the people and government of China for their support and cooperation in the renovation of the academy.

“This cooperation is yet another reflection of the iron clad friendship between Pakistan and China,” he added.
