ABBOTTABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Aug, 2026) The water level at Tarbela Dam has remained at its maximum conservation level of 1,550 feet on third consecutive day, with the reservoir holding 5.580 million acre-feet (MAF) of live storage, representing 100 percent of its capacity.
According to the latest daily data, the average inflow into Tarbela stood at 225,500 cusecs, while the average outflow was recorded at 224,700 cusecs. The Indus River flow at Tarbela was recorded at 226,000 cusecs at 0600 hours, while the outflow was 235,300 cusecs.
The dam was releasing water through all 17 power units, with 57,300 cusecs being discharged through Units 1 to 10, 53,000 cusecs through Units 11 to 14 and 41,900 cusecs through Units 15 to 17. A further 72,500 cusecs was being released through the auxiliary spillway, while 800 cusecs was supplied to the PHL Canal.
Tarbela Hydel Power Station generated 115.510 million kilowatt-hours of electricity during the last 24 hours. Power generation ranged between 4,457 MW and a maximum of 4,888 MW.
All 17 power units were operational at 0600 hours, with none closed.
The data showed significant river flows upstream, with 144,800 cusecs recorded at Skardu, 199,400 cusecs at Bunji and 198,800 cusecs at Besham. The Kabul River flow at Nowshera was 30,500 cusecs, while the combined Indus flow at Khairabad stood at 240,500 cusecs.
Rainfall during the last 24 hours included 2.80 mm at Oghi, 22.2 mm at Shinkiari and 1.80 inches at Tarbela, while Besham received 0.25 inches. In Skardu, the maximum temperature was 32.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 20 degrees Celsius.
For comparison, on the corresponding date last year, the reservoir level was 1,546.50 feet, with live storage of 5.527 MAF. The average inflow and outflow at that time were 268,200 cusecs and 253,300 cusecs respectively. Skardu recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9°C and a minimum of 19.4°C.
The latest figures indicate that Tarbela Dam is maintaining its reservoir at full conservation level amid strong river inflows and sustained hydropower generation.
