The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has said that the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH is expected to be born on August 12, 2026 at 22:37 PST.
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Aug, 2026) The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has said that the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH is expected to be born on August 12, 2026 at 22:37 PST.
According to the astronomical calculations, at sunset on August 13, the age of the new moon will be approximately 20 hours and 53 minutes, while an estimated interval of 32 minutes between sunset and moonset will be observed along Pakistan’s coastal belt.
Based on these astronomical parameters, the crescent of Rabi-ul-Awwal is not expected to be sighted with the naked eye or through a telescope on the evening of August 13, SUPARCO said.
Consequently, the first of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH is anticipated to fall on Saturday, August 15, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Safar.
However, the final decision regarding the sighting of the Rabi-ul-Awwal crescent and commencement of the new Islamic month will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is the competent authority to announce the beginning of Islamic months based on credible witness testimonies and verified observations received from across the country.
