PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Aug, 2026) Chief Khatib of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Qureshi has urged the entire nation to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14 with full enthusiasm and express gratitude to Allah for the blessing of an independent country.
In a press statement issued on Monday, Maulana Qureshi said the nation would celebrate two occasions together this year– Independence Day and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). He described the coincidence as a divine blessing and called upon people to celebrate both occasions with unity and devotion.
He said the nation should remember and pay tribute to the heroes of the Pakistan Movement whose sacrifices made the creation of Pakistan possible. “Young people, elders, children, mothers and sisters all played a role and made sacrifices for the establishment of Pakistan,” he said.
The KP Chief Khatib stressed the need to educate the younger generation about the Pakistan Movement and make them aware of the enormous sacrifices made for the country’s independence.
He said Pakistan’s armed forces were confronting those seeking to weaken the country and claimed that Israel and “agents of Modi” were working against Pakistan and the wider Muslim world.
Maulana Qureshi also appealed to religious scholars to educate people through their Friday and other sermons about the rights of the state and to speak openly against terrorism, saying that there was no room for terrorism in islam.
He urged the public to support the police and security forces, saying, they are the children of this soil and our own children.” He called for national support for the country’s security institutions.
Commenting on the situation in Azad Kashmir, he said no group or mob should be allowed to challenge the state or the law. He pointed out that Azad Kashmir has a legislative assembly and courts, adding that political change could only be achieved through democratic means.
He also urged political parties to set aside their differences and play their role in reducing political tensions and instability in the country.
Referring to Pakistan’s agreements with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, Maulana Qureshi said the developments had frustrated Pakistan’s adversaries. He warned those seeking to weaken Pakistan to “read the writing on the wall,” saying they would achieve nothing but failure.
He praised Pakistan’s leadership for demonstrating its strength on the global political stage through political, diplomatic and military efforts, saying the leadership deserved congratulations for its achievements.
Regarding relations with Afghanistan, Maulana Qureshi said Pakistan wanted better ties with its neighbouring country. However, he maintained that Afghanistan would have to understand that it could not simultaneously choose between Pakistan and India, suggesting that it needed to make a clear strategic choice.
