Crime Rate Declines In Sukkur Range, Says IG Sindh

SUKKUR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Aug, 2026) Inspector General of Police Sindh (IG), Javed Alam Odho, has said that the crime rate in Sukkur Range has significantly declined and further directives have been issued to reduce it more.

Talking to the media during his one day visit to Sukkur on Monday, the IG Sindh said the purpose of his visit was to chair a crime meeting and to hold a meeting with the business community.

He said a decrease is being witnessed in all categories of street crime in Sukkur Range and community policing is being promoted. He added that Safe City projects are being brought to Sukkur and other cities of Sindh.

On law and order, the IG said police are working for a permanent solution to tribal disputes. To counter the impact of the situation in Balochistan and to secure Jacobabad and other border districts, talks are underway with the Sindh government for Border Police, while checking is being carried out with the help of drone cameras.

Referring to the escape of two criminals in Ghotki district, he said that officers assigned to security duty have been suspended.

The IG termed the Priya Kumari abduction case as a highly sensitive case, stating that police are reinvestigating it from scratch with a new approach.

He said the Mir Raza murder case was also a highly sensitive case and the objective was to reach the real motives. He said conflicting reports of the medical board had complicated the case, therefore a new medical board has been constituted including officers as per public expectations.

A new committee is working day and night to resolve the case, he added.

Speaking about the anti narcotics drive, Odho said Sindh Police is acting against drug peddlers with full force and has arrested more drug dealers this year as compared to last year. Several cases have been registered against them and details will now be shared with the media.

On the murder of journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar, he said Mahar was his friend and a new team will be formed in coordination with his family to arrest the killers.

Regarding Operation Nijat-e-Mehram, the IG said for better coordination, a single DIG has been recommended to the government, but talks will soon be held with the government for the appointment of a DIG in Sukkur. The force taken from other departments for the operation has been largely returned, he said, adding that the medal he received for the operation belongs to his team.

The IG said a comprehensive proposal has been prepared to completely change the Thana culture in Sindh. Under the new system, an Additional SHO and an Additional Investigation Officer will be appointed at each police station.

He said the infrastructure of Sindh Police has expanded and many police stations are in a dilapidated condition, though the government has constructed many new stations. Due to budget cuts, resources are limited this year, but he hoped that with more funds next year, new police stations will be built.
