ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Aug, 2026) The Sindh government has launched a 24/7 monsoon and flood monitoring system to track rainfall, river flows and emerging flood risks across the province and enable a swift response to weather and hydrological emergencies during the 2026 monsoon season.
According to official documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the system has been introduced under the Sindh Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026, approved by the Irrigation Department as part of the province’s annual flood preparedness strategy.
The Irrigation Department has established a dedicated monsoon and flood Monitoring Cell at the office of the Director Regulation in Karachi to provide round-the-clock surveillance throughout the monsoon season.
The cell will monitor prevailing monsoon conditions, rainfall patterns, flood situations, river flows and water discharges, besides assessing emerging hydrological risks across Sindh.
The centralised monitoring mechanism is designed to provide timely information to relevant authorities, facilitate rapid decision-making and strengthen coordination among field formations during emergencies.
Under the contingency plan, the Irrigation Department prepares a comprehensive flood preparedness framework every year ahead of the monsoon to ensure coordinated action and an effective response to potential flooding.
The latest system forms part of Sindh’s broader flood management arrangements aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and reducing the impact of heavy rainfall and flooding through continuous surveillance and timely dissemination of information.
The contingency framework also seeks to ensure that relevant departments and field formations remain operationally prepared to respond promptly to flood-related emergencies throughout the 2026 monsoon season.
